The focus of the latest ACF investigation is Major General of the Russian army Maria Kitaeva and her family. She spent several years working as a journalist for Russian pro-government channels, interviewing Vladimir Putin and hosting his "direct line". While working on television, she met former Minister of Emergencies Sergei Shoigu, who then served as governor of Moscow Oblast. Soon after, Shoigu was appointed Minister of Defense, and Kitaeva became his advisor on information technologies.

In 2014, she received the rank of 3rd Class Active State Counselor, which came with the shoulder marks of a Major General. Her life became firmly tied to the Russian army. In the Ministry of Defense, she met Shoigu's deputy Yuri Sadovenko. And although they did not formally marry, they were actually a family: Kitaeva and Sadovenko have three common children.

Recently, however, Maria left Sadovenko for another Deputy Defense Minister, Timur Ivanov, the subject of another of our investigations. He supervises all military construction projects, including those in the occupied regions of Ukraine. Even after the outbreak of the war, Kitaeva continues to lead a lavish lifestyle: she travels to Europe, buys lots of expensive gifts and attends lavish social events. Kitaeva does not enter into a formal marriage with her new husband either in order to avoid sanctions. We believe that this is unfair, however, and we are convinced that European countries should not accept Putin's propagandists and war criminals.
