Czech Republic imposes sanctions against missile engineer Obnosov after ACF complaint

August 16, 2023

The Czech government has placed Boris Obnosov, head of the Tactical Missile Corporation, and his daughter and son-in-law Olga and Rostislav Zorikov on the national sanctions list. This happened after ACF requested the Financial and Analytical Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Czech police. Now the Czech assets of the family will be frozen and they will be banned from entering the country.

Boris Obnosov and his family have recently been the subjects of an investigation by ACF. Obnosov has been head of the Tactical Missile Corporation for 20 years. This is Russia's largest defenсe holding, producing missiles and air bombs. The company buys components for the production of missiles through a firm owned by Obnosov's daughter Olga Zorikova. This scheme allowed them to buy an elite penthouse in the center of Prague, an old mansion and several apartments in the Czech Republic. They also got a collection of expensive cars.

After the release of the investigation, we approached the Czech authorities with a demand to check the assets of the Obnosov-Zorikov family. Shortly after this, we were informed that the verification had started. And in the end, it showed that our conclusions were correct.

The decision to impose sanctions states that the activities of Obnosov and his relatives threaten the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Obnosov himself manufactures weapons for the Russian army and has long-standing close relations with Russian officials. The Zorikovs benefit personally from their ties to him. This allowed them to purchase estates and luxury cars in the Czech Republic.

"The Russian oligarch behind the manufacture of missiles that kill innocent Ukrainians must face the consequences. Just like those who enjoy luxuries in the Czech Republic with money from the death trade. I am pleased that the government today approved the addition of three more people to the national sanctions list on my suggestion," — Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky wrote.
