Update to the ACF sanctions lists

August 12, 2022

This week, our sanctions lists were expanded to include an important block of individuals. We have reworked the “Military staff from the Ministry of Defense” list in the “War Arrangers” section — this list is now called “Military staff and pro-Russian occupation administrations”. It includes the heads and members of the governments of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. We took this step given the constant provocative statements of the Russian authorities about their intention to incorporate the occupied territories of Ukraine into the Russian Federation, as well as the mass appointment of Russian officials to positions in the governing bodies of these territories.

Thanks to information received from those who were removed from the sanctions lists last week due to active repentance, we have updated the list of Internet censors. This week, it was expanded to include the people responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the face recognition system in Moscow. This system is actively used to persecute activists and protesters. We consider those who developed, implemented and maintain this system to be among the organizers of political repression, and we will be seeking to impose personal sanctions against them.

You can see all of the changes we’ve made here. Feel free to send motivated proposals for extending the lists or removing certain individuals from them to [email protected] — we consider all emails, but we are especially glad if they are accompanied by supporting materials and links to relevant media publications.
