ACF Investigation Reveals Spanish Real Estate of Putin’s Favorite Athlete Yelena Isinbayeva

July 20, 2023

Yelena Isinbayeva, two-time Olympic champion and Vladimir Putin's trusted representative, owns two villas and a penthouse in Spain. They are worth a total of about €3 million. This was revealed in a new investigation by the Anti-Corruption Foundation.

In 2018, Isinbayeva bought a lavish two-story penthouse with a swimming pool in the Canary Islands, right on the Atlantic coast. It cost her €1 million. In February 2022, she bought two more villas nearby, paying about €2 million for them. This allowed her to obtain a Spanish residency permit.

Yelena Isinbayeva is a pole vaulter and one of the most renowned Russian athletes. She is also a well-known supporter of Vladimir Putin. In 2012, she was his trusted representative in the presidential election. In 2015, she signed a five-year contract with the Ministry of Defense and was promoted to the rank of a major. In 2020, Isinbayeva was part of a working group on constitutional amendments that reset Putin's term count and officially allowed him to remain in power until 2036.

Since 2016, Isinbayeva has been a member of the International Olympic Committee. She hasn't lost this status even after she helped Putin usurp power. While her idol is waging war in Ukraine and destroying Russia, the athlete herself prefers to live in Europe.

We consider this fact to be unjust and intend to appeal to the Spanish authorities to revoke Isinbayeva's residence permit and expel her from the country.
