The Anti-Corruption Foundation requested France and Switzerland to promote sanctions against Lyudmila Ocheretnaya, ex-wife of Vladimir Putin, and her husband Artur Ocheretny. We proved that the property of the Ocheretnys was bought with corrupt money, and we hope that the EU will seize these assets. The Foundation sent such appeals to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland and France.
We told the story of Lyudmila Ocheretnaya and her new husband in our most recent investigation. Back in the 2000s, Lyudmila was granted full ownership of a historic mansion in the center of Moscow. And now together with Arthur Ocheretny they earn hundreds of millions of rubles on rent and dubious personal growth trainings. They receive money from the Moscow mayor's office, state banks, and Severstal, a company owned by the oligarch Alexei Mordashov, who is close to Putin.
With this corrupt money, the Ocheretny family acquired luxury real estate abroad: a villa in Biarritz, an apartment in Davos, and two luxury apartments in Malaga, Spain.
The Ocheretnys received the money for their purchases from Putin and his entourage. Thus, the money came from the pockets of the Russian taxpayers from whom it was stolen. The story of the Ocheretnys is a typical manifestation of Putin's system, where people close to the president make money on state contracts and property.
That is why we asked France and Switzerland to put Lyudmila and Artur Ocheretny on the sanctions lists and seize their property.
We are confident that sanctions against people from Putin's entourage will force the political and business elites to stop supporting him, which will be a crucial step towards destroying his regime and stopping the war he has unleashed in Ukraine.
